[Korean training] 화장실이 어디에 있어요? (Super beginner)

안녕하세요? I'm your Korean language trainer Danny.★

In the '왕초급 (super beginner)' class, you can practice frequently used Korean expression.
Even if you don't know Korean at all, you can follow expressions one by one.
But first, it is important to be able to read Hangul, Korean character.
Click → [ You can read Korean in 30 minutes!! ]

And you can read my postings below to help you get started in learning Korean.
Click → [ How to start learning Korean? ]
Click → [ How to read Korean naturally? ]

Now, let's start to learn! 😃

1. 화장실이 어디에 있어요?

'Where is the toilet?' in English.
This is a really important survival expression when you travel to Korea. 😅
You can try to change the word '화장실' to other place.
  • 화장실이 어디에 있어요?
  • 지하철역이 어디에 있어요?
  • 학교가 어디에 있어요?

2. ____에 있어요.

Because it was very important to survival, it is also important to understand the answer.
Now let's learn some words of direction.

앞에
Front
[아페]
옆에
Side
[여페]
뒤에
Back
[뒤에]
오른쪽에
Right
[오른쪼게]
왼쪽에
left
[왼쪼게]
  • 에 있어요.
  • 에 있어요.
  • 오른쪽에 있어요.

3. ____(으)로 가세요.

Sometimes people will answer like this.
'가세요' means 'Go to...' in English.

앞으로
Front
[아프로]
옆으로
Side
[여프로]
뒤로
Back
[뒤로]
오른쪽으로
Right
[오른쪼그로
왼쪽으로
left
[왼쪼그로]
  • 으로 가세요.
  • 로 가세요.
  • 오른쪽으로 가세요.

  1. 받침 o → ~으로
  2. 받침 x → ~로
         ✦ '받침' = last consonant

Now, let's practice hard! :)

[Korean training] 어디에 가요? (Super beginner)

안녕하세요? I'm your Korean language trainer Danny.★

How's your Korean learning going?
I just keep going my Thai learning with the application.
I bought a package that can learn Thai words for 15 minutes in a day.
In the first time, I thought 15 minutes is little bit short to learn something.
But it makes me to super concentrate on learning Thai.
And I can also use spare time very well.
Time is short, but very effective. 😊

1. 어디에 가요?

'Where are you going?' in English.
We can use '에' after 'place'.
But in the conversation, we usually omit '에'.
  • 어디에 가요?

2. ____에 가요.

The answer is also very simple.
We just change '어디' to the place you want to say.
In the answer, you can omit '에' also.
I recommend you to make your sentences with your words of place.
  • 학교에 가요.
  • 회사에 가요.

Now, let's practice hard! :)

[Korean training] 아메리카노 주세요. (Super beginner)

안녕하세요? I'm your Korean language trainer Danny.★

Today, I'd like to recommend an app to learning language.
This app's name is 'drops'.
This app is really good for 'Super beginner' students who want to learn basic words.
You can learning basic words repeatedly with good quality emoticons.
As a Super beginner of Thai, I'm usually using this app when I have spare time.
However, I think that it is not helpful for intermediate learners. 😊

1. 아메리카노 주세요.

We can say this when we order americano in a cafe.
We can order everything by saying '주세요' at the end of the sentence.
I recommend you to change '아메리카노' to other words and practice.
  • 아메리카노 주세요.

2. 아메리카노 두 잔 주세요.

Sometimes you may order several cups of americano.
And now, it's time to learn about 'Unit noun'.
There are so many unit nouns in Korean.
But you don't need to know all of unit nouns now.
Just remember, '개' is most frequently used.
Here are some 'unit nouns'.

thing
cup
마리
animal
bottle
book

  • 아메리카노 두 잔 주세요.

Now, let's practice hard! :)

[Korean training] 얼마예요? (Super beginner)

안녕하세요? I'm your Korean language trainer Danny.★

I'm learning Thai on the internet lesson.
And they presented too many words about the weather.
So I wondered if I should memorize all of these words.
My conclusion was... 'NO'.
I thought it's important to study the words first that I use frequently in daily life.
We don't need to memorize all of words.
The most necessary words for weather in Thailand are 'hot' and 'rain' not 'snow' or 'hail'.
After I set my mind up like this, my learning Thai became comfortable. 😊

1. 얼마예요?

'How's much?' in English.
When you point out something and ask a question, you can say '이거 얼마예요?'.
Here '이거' means 'this'.
  • 얼마예요?
  • 이거 얼마예요?

2. ____원이에요.

It is time to learn about the high units of number.

100
백 원
[배권]
1,000
천 원
[처눤]
10,000
만 원
[마눤]
100,000
십만 원
[심마눤]
1,000,000
백만 원
[뱅마눤]
10,000,000
천만 원
[천마눤]
100,000,000
일억 원
[이러권]

In English, '10,000' is 'ten thousand (십 천)', but Korean has a unit of '만'.
So it can be confusing.
We use 'Sino-Korean' number for money.
And be careful with the pronunciation of '십만 원' and '백만 원'.

  • ____ 원이에요.

Let's practice more with below example.
  • 100 원이에요.
  • 2,100 원이에요.
  • 32,100 원이에요.
  • 432,100 원이에요.
  • 5,432,100 원이에요.
  • 65,432,100 원이에요.
  • 765,432,100 원이에요.

Now, let's practice hard! :)

[Korean training] 오늘 날씨 어때요? (Super beginner)

안녕하세요? I'm your Korean language trainer Danny.★

I heard that there are 3 seasons in Thailand.
Hot, hotter, hottest. 😁
Now, Thailand is the 'hottest' season.
But sometimes it suddenly thunders and rains.
It's the weather that I couldn't experience in Korea.
I hope the season of 'hottest' will pass by soon.

1. 오늘 날씨 어때요?

'How's the weather today?' in English.
When we want to ask about something, we can use '어때요?'.

For example,
  - 한국어 공부 어때요?
  - 이 식당 음식 어때요?

  • 오늘 날씨 어때요?

2. ____.

Now, let's answer.

sunny
맑아요
cloud
흐려요
snow
눈이 와요
rain
비가 와요

We can read '맑아요' as [말가요].
And we express 'rain' and 'snow' as they come from the sky.
  • 맑아요
  • 흐려요
  • 눈이 와요
  • 비가 와요

Now, let's practice hard! :)

[Korean training] 무슨 계절을 좋아해요? (Super beginner)

안녕하세요? I'm your Korean language trainer Danny.★

Recently, I made a Thai language exchange partner in 'italki'.
I have been asking my Thai friend to get a feedback.
But I felt sorry for asking every time.
However, since language exchange partners are helping each other
to learn languages, we can feel easy to get a feedback.
Why don't you find a language exchange partner too? 😃

1. 무슨 계절을 좋아해요?

'What season do you like?' in English.
You can say this when you want to ask what other people like.
For example,

  - 무슨 운동을 좋아해요?
  - 무슨 수업을 좋아해요?
  - 무슨 음악를 좋아해요?
  • 무슨 계절을 좋아해요?

2. 저는 ____을 좋아해요.

Now, let's answer.
There are four seasons.

Spring
Summer
여름
Autumn
가을
Winter
겨울

If you don't like the season, you can put '안' in front of '좋아해요'.
  • 저는 봄을 좋아해요.
  • 저는 여름을 좋아해요.
  • 저는 가을을 좋아해요.
  • 저는 겨울을 좋아해요.

Now, let's practice hard! :)

[Korean training] 지금 몇 시예요? (2) (Super beginner)

안녕하세요? I'm your Korean language trainer Danny.★

How was 'Sino-Korean' and 'Pure-Korean' number?
Did you practice a lot?
As a Thai learner, 'Time' in Thai is very detailed and complicated.
So I'm having difficulty learning. 😓
Today, let's learn about time more.
Click → [ 지금 몇 시예요? (1) ]

1. 오전 / 오후 ____시예요.

'오전' is a.m and '오후' is p.m in English.
If you want to use it more detail,
you can use it with these words '아침/저녁/새벽' (morning / evening / dawn).

  • (오전/오후) 여덟 시예요.

2. ____시 ____분이에요.

Now, it's time to get confused. 😆
We've practiced '____시예요' already and we used 'Pure-Korean' number.
B!U!T! when we say '____분이에요', we should use 'Sino-Korean' number.
I don't know why.
Even I'd not realized this before I became a Korean teacher.
So, we have to practice a lot and get used to it naturally. 화이팅! 😃

  • 1시 1분이에요.
  • 3시 30분이에요.
  • 5시 50분이에요.

Now, let's practice hard! :)

[Korean training] 지금 몇 시예요? (1) (Super beginner)

안녕하세요? I'm your Korean language trainer Danny.★

Nowadays I'm using Quizlet app.
I can make flash cards in the app. to memorize new words.
It is great to review when you have spare time.
I have memorized all of 'month' in Thai with this app.
It is highly recommended. 😃

1. 지금 몇 시예요?

'What time is it now?' in English.
It is a sentence that is used frequently in everyday life.
Please remember!

  • 지금 몇 시예요?

2. ____시예요.

We've learned how to read 'month' and 'day' in the last post.
And then we practiced about 'Sino-Korean' number.
Today, we'll learn about 'Pure-Korean' number.
Because we have to use 'Pure-Korean' number when we say 'hour'.

We can simply put '시' after the above 'Pure-Korean' number.
When we ready number in Korean,
we sometimes read it as 'Sino-Korean' and sometimes read it as 'Pure-Korean',
depending on the word following the number.
It makes difficult for students.
But don't be frustrated.
Let's practice one by one with me. 😃

[Korean training] 오늘 몇 월 몇 일이에요? (Super beginner)

안녕하세요? I'm your Korean language trainer Danny.★

I learned 'month' in Thai today.
But it was difficult because there are different words in every month like English.
I have to memorize twelve words. 😨
But 'month' in Korean is really easy.
Now, let's learn. 😃

1. 오늘 몇월 몇일이에요?

'What day is it today?' in English.
'월' means 'month' and '일' means 'day'.
And we use '몇' when we ask number.
For example, 'How many people...', 'What time...' → ' 명...', ' 시...'.
And we can read naturally like this.
  - 몇월 몇일 → [며둴 며칠]
If you read [몇.월.몇.일.], it would be really weird. :)

  • 오늘 몇월 몇일이에요?

2. ____월 ____일이에요.

As I said at the beginning, 'month' in Korea is really easy.
Because we can just read it with number. Of course, 'day' is the same.
Now, let's learn about 'number'.

In fact, students are very confused about Korean numbers.
Because there are two ways to read numbers in Korean.
Today, we are going to learn 'Sino-Korean' number.
But now, don't think about it, just think about how to read 'month' and 'day'.

Just add '월' and '일' to these numbers.

For example,

  - May 30th    → 5월 30일  → [오월 삼시빌]
  - October 8th → 10월 8일  → [시월 파릴]

Only one important thing is that when we say October, we say [시월] not [십월].
